Sample of our new Roster Manager feature
The Roster Manager is now available for Platinum
members. If you're not a Platinum member, check it out and see if you're
interested. (We'll give instructions at the bottom on how to upgrade your
membership). If you are a Platinum member, you'll want to understand more about
this valuable service.
Roster Manager is intended to address 2 problems:
- People have been asking us for rest-of-the-year rankings, instead of just
week-by-week rankings, forecasting how players will do that week.
- When we give our standard Waiver Advice, we don't know the size of your
particular league. There are some leagues where Yeremiah Bell is a solid
option. There are other leagues in which I can't foresee owning Bell. The
scoring, league size, number of players on the roster, number of starters,
whether it's a seasonal or dynasty league - these all factor into whether to
own a player or not.
Roster Manager comes to the rescue. In a very simple format, it gives
rest-of-the-year rankings that pertain to your league. Note that it is intended
as a supplement to our Starter Advice and Waiver Advice.
- In Starter Advice, we address who to start for this particular week's
situation, based on things like: What matchups a player faces; how hot/cold
the player has been; injury status; etc.
- In Waiver Advice, we identify players who might be worth picking up for
either continued roster status or for one week only. Usually we identify which
scenario we mean. Often we identify the best league fit (Tackle/Big
Play/Balanced, or deeper leagues, etc.).
However, Roster Manager is the final authority when it comes to knowing
what's right for managing rosters in your league. Using parameters that you set,
Roster Manager creates a custom view that shows the typical starters and
typical reserves for your league. It takes a rest-of-the-year view and
should not be used in place of Starter Advice. For example, there is
little consideration for whether a player has the upcoming week off.
Hopefully, examples will help. The following clip from the Roster Manager
spreadsheet shows how to set up your league's scoring system. NOTE: A
convention in the spreadsheet is that anything in light green can be modified,
whereas cells of other colors contain
Roster Manager contains several tabs for evaluating players: DL, LB, DB and
All IDP. Let's look at just one, the LB tab, which is similar to the others.
By the way, since we've entered an unusual scoring system, the rankings
will look a bit different from our normal rankings. (You can't cheat and use
these for your late draft :).
First, note the settings:
- Number of Owners - That's the number of teams in your league.
- # of LB on roster - In some leagues, this is fixed, while it's
variable in others. Pick the best number that fits, in your opinion. If it is
variable, you might try different numbers and separately see the results.
- # of LB to start - Again, this can be fixed or variable. Try
different numbers if it's variable.
- Dynasty or seasonal - Enter D or S. The rankings vary slightly.
- Use of "The Mark" - If you read IDPBlitz for long, you'll learn
about "The Mark." (Read more about it here).
You can ignore "The Mark", or you can use "The Mark" given to the player in
each of 3 league types: Tackle, Big Play or Balanced.
Now, to the output. The important point is that any player whose name is
colored should ideally on a roster somewhere in your league. Obviously, if
you look through the rosters in your league, it's unlikely that they will
exactly match our assessment. Any color-coded player who is not on a team's
roster is a good candidate to add to your team, according to Roster Manager.
Then Roster Manager fine-tunes the analysis by suggesting which players would
typically be starters. These are color-coded in green. Typical
reserves are color-coded in yellow.
Consider the opposite case. If you have a player on your roster who is not
color-coded, then Roster Manager suggests you drop that player, and add one of
the available color-coded ones.
Upgrading to Platinum
If you're a Basic (free) member and would like to upgrade to Platinum, it's
quite easy. Simply click here and fill out the appropriate information.
For Premium members, it's a little trickier due to the nature of our
subscription software. You have 2 choices:
- Click on the same link as a Basic member, and when filling out the
information, be sure you select YES when asked if this is a renewal. The
subscription software will extend your subscription by a year and
charge you $14.99. In effect, you can receive Platinum service for the rest of
this year, plus an additional year, but at a lower price: the $9.99 you
already paid for this year, and the $14.99 you've prepaid for next year. In
effect, you get a lower price by extending your subscription.
- If you do not wish to extend your subscription, you will have to use a
manual method. Please do the following:
- E-mail us at experts@idpblitz.com,
and let us know that you want to upgrade to Platinum.
- We will write back, tell you where and how to send a check, and
upgrade you immediately to Platinum.
- If the check doesn't arrive within 2 weeks, we will downgrade you to
Premium until the check arrives.
