IDPBlitz announces future site closure
Cecil Taylor
It's with a mixture of regret and relief that I announce to you that IDPBlitz.com will cease operations as of September 4, 2008. This e-mail explains:
- The reasons for ceasing operations
- Plans for continued web site service until Sept. 4
- Options for subscribers whose subscriptions end before Sept. 4
- Disposition of subscriptions ending after Sept. 4
- Options for basic (unpaid) subscribers
REASONS FOR CEASING OPERATIONS
While we hope IDPBlitz.com has had the appearance and content of an industry-leading web site, behind the scenes it is a small operation run by a handful of people who have "real" jobs they work before IDPBlitz. As a result, the strain and time investment has grown over the years as IDPBlitz has expanded its services.
On the other hand, despite the steady growth of IDPBlitz subscribership, its income is not at a level where staff can be greatly expanded to offload the team. There is also a concern about losing quality and uniqueness by expanding staff.
IDPBlitz has been fun, and we feel like we've brought a unique service to fantasy footballers. We've thought through options to continue IDPBlitz as-is, making it more efficient to produce, or to continue as a scaled-back service. In the end, IDPBlitz leadership has decided to favor family over fantasy football. So we are planning a graceful exit over the next 5-6 months.
PLANS FOR CONTINUED WEB SITE SERVICE UNTIL SEPT. 4
Several subscribers have noted that we've been pretty silent since the end of the 2007 fantasy football season. Now that our evaluation is complete, we're going to crank up the offseason content. At the same time, we'll be focusing on the most important items. Here's the game plan:
FEBRUARY: First, during the rest of the month, we'll convert the site for the new game plan, so you'll gradually see changes. We'll release a Risers/Fallers special report within the next week, analyzing players whose prospects should change next season. Our plan is also to produce a pre-free agency draft kit, noting our previously stated concern that it will be wildly inaccurate until free agency and the rookie draft have completed. Finally, we'll start answering Forums again and continue all the way through Sept. 4.
MARCH-MAY: The draft kit will be updated Mar. 15, Apr. 1, Apr. 15, May 1 and May 15. A rookie draft kit will make its debut on May 1. Note that Platinum subscribers can access a league-customizable version of the draft kit, as introduced in 2007. We will file any special reports or blogs as appropriate during these months. Also, there will be a "knee-jerk reaction" to the draft, published on Apr. 28.
JUNE-SEPT. 4: Overall IDP and rookie draft kits will be updated weekly, typically on Fridays. IDP Profiles will be released throughout the month of June and updated as necessary through the rest of the preseason. IDP News and Notes returns as a twice-weekly feature in June. We'll file IDP Special Reports at a minimum of every two weeks and possibly more frequently.
You'll notice that the focus is very much on the Premium and Platinum content that attracts our paid subscribers. We will produce no content that was previously accessible by basic (unpaid) members, and aside from News and Notes, will offer nothing to other unpaid visitors.
OPTIONS FOR SUBSCRIBERS WHOSE SUBSCRIPTIONS END BEFORE SEPT. 4
These subscribers will be able to continue IDPBlitz subscriptions by renewing. The renewals will expire after Sept. 4. The cost of the renewals will reduce as Sept. 4 approaches, as follows:
Expiring in: Premium Renewal Platinum Renewal
Feb-May $5.00 $7.50
June $4.00 $6.00
July $3.00 $4.50
August $2.00 $3.00
September $1.00 $1.50
DISPOSITION OF SUBSCRIPTIONS ENDING AFTER SEPT. 4
It has always been the policy of IDPBlitz.com not to offer refunds, as published on our web site. However, due to this unique situation, we will offer refunds to subscribers whose subscriptions end after IDPBlitz is scheduled to cease operations. The refunds are as follows:
Expiring in: Premium Refund Platinum Refund
Sept. 5-30, '08 $1.00 $1.50
Oct. '08 $2.00 $3.00
Nov. '08 $3.00 $4.50
Dec. '08 $4.00 $6.00
Jan-May '09 $5.00 $7.50
Jun-Aug '09 $10.00 $15.00
Sept. '09 $11.00 $16.50
Oct. '09 $12.00 $18.00
Nov. '09 $13.00 $19.50
Dec. '09 $14.00 $21.00
Refund checks will be delivered by Sept. 30, 2008. You MUST have a current address on file in your IDPBlitz subscriber information, or we will not be able to guarantee that you will receive your refund.
Other than these situations stated above, IDPBlitz maintains its policy of not offering refunds.
OPTIONS FOR BASIC (UNPAID) SUBSCRIBERS
There is no further benefit to being a Basic (unpaid) subscriber. You may either pay to subscribe, or access News and Notes (an unpaid non-subscriber feature) when it returns in June. Finally, I want to thank each of you for being a member of IDPBlitz. While there are a few times that you get on us, for the most part, you are very supportive, encouraging and appreciative, and that keeps us going. I regret that we cannot continue helping you for years to come, but I hope we can at least serve you to the utmost in the remaining months of IDPBlitz. Sincerely,
Cecil Taylor
