It's Up and Good! Right Down the Middle!
Landon Reed
The NFL 2007 is finally underway. I know we had an early Thursday
meeting to begin the season but that for me was too much like a tease. Give me a
full slate of games! I want Sunday afternoons to overwhelm me with highlights,
stat tickers, and channeling flipping!
Boy oh boy were we ever treated to some great nationally televised games.
Watching Favre and McNabb trying to lead their respective teams to a win was so
savory. Both defenses seemed to find ways to stop each side juuuuust enough to
make it seem like a tie was imminent. Favre has never been a likable fantasy QB
for me but I've always loved his game performances; and Sunday sort of
encapsulated that. He made some stunning throws when he probably shouldn't have
and it made all the difference. I hope he never retires and I'm glad McNabb is
back. He's a class act all the way and always makes me think of the way cowboys
were a few hundred years ago. Get knocked down? Git up, forget wiping away the
dirt, and refocus yourself.
I haven't forgotten the other side of the game either. The entire front four
of GB put in a gutsy performance. Cullen Jenkins
and Aaron Kampman demonstrated why they're going to
have fine seasons as DEs. Heck even Jevon Kearse
looked good. Of course, he still limped off the field at one point.
Nick Barnett's performance had me feeling pretty
good. I spoke highly all preseason about him and he delivered the goods. I'm
oping he keeps it up of course as one week doesn't a season make, but if you
caught any of his play I think you'll agree he wasn't merely good but
phenomenal. If anything I winced a few times thinking he'd hurt himself, and I
don't even have him on my teams.
The San Diego game was a nice treat too. The league was already aware of its
many special defensive players, but just to be safe SD sent out multiple
warnings. Shaun Phillips's hit on Grossman hurt me!
When Eric Weddle followed up with his sack, I
thought Hoo boy, opponents of SD are in for a long season. The league has
officially been warned then. SD will send anyone from any angle to attempt to
destroy your Commander in Chief.
I caught about half of the Washington/Dolphins game, which was more than I
needed to see to realize that Roger McIntosh is a
player to add to those rosters immediately. He was no shoe in for the WLB spot
in Washington but his preseason play kept progressing and his play Sunday
cemented him for the near future. Twelve tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble?
Wow!
In the aforementioned kickoff game we were treated to some solid DB
performances, which we had tipped many of you off to already.
Marlin Jackson looked really solid and one of my
deep sleepers Kelvin Hayden showed he might end up
on tackle league rosters very soon. Rob Morris's performance was surprising to
both Cecil and I and is the subject of continued talk even now. We're wondering
how his play will carry on and if it'll mean an erosion of
Freddie Keiaho's play. We're watching this for you of course.
Scott Fujita made his owners smile too --doubly so I
imagine as he probably came dirt-cheap.
Yep, it was a great start to the 2007 season. Looking forward to the rest of
it. Stay tuned for Friday's edition of IDPBlitz Tips
when Cecil and I give you the list of whom to add, drop, hold, or monitor.
