Heroes and Zeroes for Week 5
Mike Harrison
This was my kind of IDP week, fans - tackle week! Many, many players reached
double digits in my favorite IDP stat, and 5 of them reached Hero status. Big
plays were fewer than usual, and only James Farrior and Tedy Bruschi, each with
2 sacks, failed to make the list while getting 2 or more.
Overall sacks were way way down with only 34 as opposed to 31 interceptions.
Scoring was up, with Randall Gay, Kerry Rhodes, DeAngelo Hall, and Brandon Siler
returning fumbles for touchdowns. Andre Carter got a safety, while Aaron Ross,
Vincent Fuller, Carlos Rogers and Roderick Hood scored on interceptions.

|
Karlos Dansby, ARI |
14 tackles, 1 assist |
For the longest time I thought this was the performance of the week - but
then along came Briggs. |
|
Roderick Hood, ARI |
2 tackles, 2 interceptions, 5 passes defensed, 1 touchdown |
Roderick's TD gave the Cards a lead they never relinquished. |
|
Derrick Brooks, TB |
11 tackles, 1 assist |
Good to see that he can still do this. Tackles used to be his stock in
trade. |
|
Fahkir Brown, STL |
9 tackles, 2 interceptions, 6 passes defensed |
Fahkir seemed to be around the ball on every play. If he didn't knock it
away, he wrestled the carrier to the ground. 6 passes defensed is the
largest number of the year. |
|
Will Witherspoon, STL |
11 tackles, 3 assists, 1 sack, 1 fumble forced |
Wil seemed to get every tackle that Brown missed. |
|
Jason Taylor, MIA |
5 tackles, 1 assist, 2 sacks, 1 fumble forced |
He's B-A-A-C-K! And he was "in your face" to all his doubters with this
large game. |
|
Andre Carter, WAS |
5 tackles, 3 assists, 2 sacks |
Andre's now averaging 3 tackles and a sack a game. He hasn't seen these
numbers since 2002 in San Francisco. |
|
Michael Boley, ATL |
10 tackles, 4 assists, 1 interception, 1 pass defensed |
Michael single-handedly kept the Falcons in the game with Tennessee.
Unfortunately his inept offensive mates were too much to overcome. |
|
Aaron Ross, NYG |
2 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 passes defensed, 1 touchdown |
Welcome to the NFL, rook! Aaron sealed the deal for the Giants with his
second interception off Pennington late in the game. |
|
Junior Seau, NE |
4 tackles, 2 assists, 2 interceptions, 2 passes defensed |
A blast from the past! As Landon Reed could tell you, Junior was my
favorite IDP for many years. This kind of game used to be routine for him -
nice to get one more chance to cheer. |
|
Lance Briggs, CHI |
16 tackles |
The IDP line of the week. Yes, it's all tackles, but 16 of them! Largest
number of the year so far. |

|
Dawan Landry, BAL |
1 tackle, 1 assist |
LaRon won this week's "Landry lottery" in a walk. OK, by one pass defensed. |
|
Clinton Hart, SD |
1 tackle, 1 assist |
Guess he didn't have any heart yesterday. |
|
Elvis Dumervil, DEN |
1 tackle, 1 assist, 1 pass defensed |
The original Elvis was a hero to millions. This one earned his Goat horns
with his poor performance. |
|
Marlin Jackson, IND |
3 assists |
At least he helped out a few times because he got nothing done otherwise. |
|
Robert Mathis, IND |
1 assist |
One whole assist. Why did he bother to show up? |
|
Darnell Dockett, ARI |
1 tackle |
Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while. Must be how Darnell
found a ball-carrier yesterday. |
|
Dewayne White, DET |
1 tackle, 2 assists |
Big Dewayne played very small. |
|
John Abraham, ATL |
1 tackle |
1 big tackle for Abraham. And to think I penciled him in right away on 3
different teams. |
|
Adewale Ogunleye, CHI |
1 tackle, 1 pass defensed |
A Hero last week, a Zero on Sunday |
|
Mark Anderson, CHI |
blanked |
He managed to touch the QB twice but didn't get any official stats. |
