Heroes and Zeroes, Week 7
Mike Harrison

Fun day to be an IDP lover, fans! Lots of big plays, lots of tackles, lots of scores. I had a hard time winnowing the Heroes down to a managable number and still exceeded the standard 10.

Darryl Tapp's 4 sacks earned him Hero of Heroes notice this week. Patrick Willis, Tedy Bruschi and Morlon Greenwood failed to make the final cut with double-digit tackles. Big play makers who failed to chart were Greg Ellis and Tommie Harris, each with 2 sacks.

Scoring was high as Jason Taylor, London Fletcher and Johnathon Joseph scored on interception returns, Demeco Ryans, Osi Umenyiora and Cornelius Griffin returned fumbles for scores, and Pat Watkins picked up a blocked kick and took it in for 6. As always though, there were more than enough Zeroes to choose from.

Heroes Last Week's Stats Comments
Michael Strahan, NYG 3 tackles, 2.5 sacks The 49ers chose to give help on Umenyiora's side.  That left Michael open enough for him to bring back the memories with his highest sack total in at least 3 years.
Osi Umenyiora, NYG 2 tackles, 1 assist, 1 sack, 1 fumble forced, 2 fumbles recovered, 1 touchdown Osi was double-teamed almost all day.  His game was almost totally one play - but what a play!  A sack, fumble forced, fumble recovered and 75 yard touchdown return (third longest in Giants history) all at once.  That single play was worth 14 points in a standard balanced league.
Nick Harper, TEN 8 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2 passes defensed, 2 fumbles recovered Nick was all over the field in the Titans thrilling win over the Texans.
Demeco Ryans, HOU 9 tackles, 2 assists, 1 sack, 1 fumble forced, 2 fumbles recovered, 1 touchdown Here's your stat-filler game of the week.  Demeco grabbed his second Hero of the season with a dominant performance.
Dewayne White, DET 7 tackles, 1 assist, 3 sacks, 1 pass defensed Dewayne's large performance led the Lions to their fourth win - one more than they got all last season.
Calvin Pace, ARI 8 tackles, 1 assist, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 pass defensed Calvin almost led the Cardinals to an upset over the Redskins.
London Fletcher, WAS 10 tackles, 3 assists, 1 interception, 2 passes defensed, 1 touchdown Amazingly enough this is London's first Hero of the season.
Will Witherspoon, STL 12 tackles, 1 assist Will was the Tackler of the Week as he piled up his specialty.
Darryl Tapp, SEA 5 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 pass defensed, 1 fumble forced Darryl was Sackman of the week.  His 4 were topped only by Osi Umenyiora's incredible 6 a few weeks back.
Julian Peterson, SEA 4 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 pass defensed Ho hum.  Another fine game from Julian as Mr. Consistency hit the Hero list for the third time this year.
Jared Allen, KC 8 tackles, 1 assist, 2 sacks Jared got a late start this season but he is making up for it fast.  This was his third Hero performance in only 5 weeks.
Zeroes Last Week's Stats Comments
Cato June, TB 1 tackle Cato must think it's June and he's not playing.  He sure didn't play on Sunday.  It's his second appearance as a Zero.  The team and position switches have drastically cut into his stats.
Gaines Adams, TB blanked Adams came in off the bench but his chest muscle injury bothered him and he failed to record a stat.
Antonio Smith, ARI 1 assist 1 whole big assist for Smith.  His performance was as anonymous as his name.
John Abraham, ATL 1 tackle, 1 pass defensed Ughhh.  This was Abraham's second Zero in 3 weeks - and like Smith and Barney, he earned it.
Jarrett Johnson, BAL 4 assists Johnson helped out a little but had no real impact.
Ken Hamlin, DAL 1 tackle, 1 assist The Pied Piper of Hamlin attracted children.  Ken played like a child as he did little of anything.
Brian Russell, SEA 1 tackle Russell kind of ran around without any effect as he only managed to touch a ballcarrier once.
Tamba Hali, KC 1 tackle, 1 assist This was Hali's second Zero as he barely made any plays at all.
Sean Considine, PHI 1 tackle, 2 assists Lito Sheppard's return performance impacted on Sean's opportunities.  Worse, when he did get a chance he made very few plays.
Mark Anderson, CHI 1 tackle Anderson "scored" his second Zero in 3 weeks.  Hopefully he'll remember how to get a sack for his owners (like me) one of these weeks.
