Heroes and Zeroes of Week 8
Mike Harrison
It's almost Halloween, fans, and in the spirit of that holiday, tackle-lovers
picked up a bushel basket of treats this week as double-digit tacklers abounded.
However, big play lovers were tricked out of almost all of their IDP as there
were few big sack or interception games. The major exception was Antonio
Cromartie's very rare feat of candy grabbing 2 scores, one on a fumble recovery,
the other with a 70 yard interception return.
Everyone with 2 big plays made the Hero list, as did all double-digit
tacklers. Scores were few besides Cromartie's double-dip as only Rosevelt Colvin
with a fumble return and Aaron Glenn with an interception crossed the goal liine.

|
LaRon Landry, WAS |
10 tackles, 4 assists |
I thought a while about naming 2 Heroes on a team that got blasted 52-7.
But numbers are numbers in IDP land. |
|
London Fletcher, WAS |
12 tackles, 4 assists, 1 pass defensed |
London's making up for lost time; this was his second Hero in a row. |
|
Mike Vrabel, NE |
11 tackles, 2 assists, 3 sacks, 3 fumbles forced |
This was the Hero of the Week performance - scoring even higher than
Cromartie's great game. |
|
Antonio Cromartie, SD |
2 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 passes defensed, 1 fumble recovery, 2
touchdowns |
Great performances like these are why IDP can be soooo frustrating. Antonio
is a reserve who had only 9 tackles and 1 interception this whole season.
How could you see this coming? He's been on Cecil's radar on the Starter
Advice Spreadsheet although Our Leader didn't give him a grade this week. |
|
David Harris, NYJ |
10 tackles, 7 assists, 1 sack |
Our OCT 27 News and Notes told you that Harris had good numbers in limited
playing time and would start for the injured Jonathan Vilma. Hope you took
advantage. |
|
Travis LaBoy, TEN |
2 tackles, 1 assist, 2 sacks, 1 fumble forced, 1 fumble recovered |
Another sub who scored big on Sunday, Travis led the Titans in crunching up
and spitting out poor Daunte' Culpepper. |
|
Trent Cole, PHI |
7 tackles, 1 assist, 2 sacks |
Big Trent made sure the Birds didn't throw another game away with his large
effort. |
|
Antoine Winfield, MIN |
10 tackles, 2 assists, 3 passes defensed |
Antoine was all over the field as he not only scored double digits in
tackles, he had the most passes defensed by anyone on Sunday. |
|
Gary Brackett, IND |
11 tackles, 1 assist |
Gary got his helping of tackles like he usually does. |
|
Leigh Bodden, CLE |
8 tackles, 1 interception, 1 pass defensed |
Leigh's game was good, but as you can tell I was scraping down towards the
bottom a little. |

Last Week's Stats |
Comments |
|
Rodney Harrison, NE |
1 tackle, 1 assist, 1 pass defensed |
Good thing the Patriots didn't need Rodney to win because he did very
little. |
|
Adalius Thomas, NE |
1 tackle, 1 assist |
And Thomas did even less. |
|
Shaun Phillips, SD |
1 assist, 1 pass defensed |
Strange to see Shaun here as he's had only had one other poor game this
season. |
|
Phillip Buchanon, TB |
1 tackle |
One whole tackle. No passes defensed. Where was he? |
|
Mark Anderson, CHI |
1 tackle |
Anderson is in a terrible slump as this is his third Zero in his last 4
games. |
|
Marlin Jackson, IND |
1 tackle, 1 pass defensed |
Jackson got off to a hot start this year by hitting The Mark in all formats
3 of the first 4 weeks. He hasn't come close since. |
|
Julius Peppers, CAR |
2 assists, 1 pass defensed |
Not even one tackle. Maybe Pepa of the old Salt-N-Pepa group impersonated
him. |
|
Jason Taylor, MIA |
1 fumble recovered |
Gee - you'd hope to see bookend DLs Peppers and Taylor on the other half of
this list. |
|
Osi Umenyiora, NYG |
2 tackles |
Osi was the only Zero to make 2 tackles. Big deal. |
|
Justin Tuck, NYG |
1 assist |
Justin's been hot with sacks but cooled way down on Sunday as he forgot how
to tackle. |
