Heroes and Zeroes of Week 16
Mike Harrison
It was the penultimate week for football, but it's the ultimate week for
Heroes and Zeroes, fans. And our faves went off with a huge bang. We'll wait for
Cecil's tally, but I bet this could be the highest scoring IDP week of the year.
Heroes abounded, as a total of 12 players who could have been Heroes in other
weeks didn't make it. Double digit tacklers Nick Greisen, Brent Grimes, John
DiGiorgio, Nick Barnett, Fred Bennett and Richard Marshall failed at being
Heroes. So did Mike Vrabel, Jared Allen, Shaun Rogers, Bobby McCray, DeMarcus
Ware and La'Roi Glover, each with 2 sacks. Scoring tallies were at the highest
all season. Kedric Golston had a safety, while Corey Graham and Leroy Hill
scored on returns of a blocked punt and a fumble, respectively. Finally, scoring
on intereception returns were Paris Lenon, Kavika Mitchell, Corey Webster, Brian
Urlacher and Ike Taylor.

Last Week's Stats |
Comments |
|
Joey Porter, MIA |
4 tackles, 1 assist, 2 sacks, 1 fumble forced |
Another fine game from the Mouth that Roared! His walk has backed up his
talk the last few weeks. |
|
Calvin Pace, ARI |
10 tackles, 1 sack |
Calvin just keeps piling up the tackles and sacks in his breakout year. |
|
Stewart Bradley, PHI |
5 tackles, 1 assist, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 pass defensed |
Takeo Spikes' replacement had a fine game in his first start for the Birds. |
|
Kawika Mitchell, NYG |
3 tackles, 3 assists, 2 sacks, 1 interception, 1 pass defensed, 1 fumble
forced, 1 touchdown |
The Hero of the week. The Giants biggest offseason acquisition has had an
okay year, but earned his money with a great performance in overcoming the
ineptitude of his team's offense (5 fumbles and an interception!) and
leading the Giants to the playoffs. |
|
Patrick Willis, SF |
12 tackles, 8 assists, 2 sacks, 1 pass defensed, 1 fumble forced |
Patrick would have been Hero of the Week most times, but his fine
performance was trumped by Mitchell's. |
|
Kyle Vanden Bosch, TEN |
8 tackles, 3 assists, 3 sacks, 1 fumble forced |
Sackman of the Week, Kyle's hat trick plus 8 tackles still weren't enough to
be Top Dog this week. |
|
Leigh Bodden, CLE |
4 tackles, 1 assist, 2 interceptions, 3 passes defensed |
Leigh was all over the field but couldn't prevent the Browns from suffering
a critical defeat. |
|
Chinedum Ndukwe, CIN |
8 tackles, 2 assists, 2 interceptions, 2 passes defensed, 1 fumble forced |
After Chinedum's fine game I may need to learn how to pronounce his name. |
|
Alex Brown, CHI |
5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 pass defensed |
It's been an off year for Alex but this performance reminded us of how he
used to play. |
|
Corey Chavous, STL |
12 tackles, 1 sack |
Corey tied Willis for most solo tackles. |
|
Zeroes |
Last Week's Stats |
Comments |
|
Reed Doughty, WAS |
1 tackle, 1 assist |
Doughty wasn't doughty at all as shown by his (lack of) stats. |
|
Gaines Adams, TB |
1 tackle, 1 assist |
Adams had gained some respect for his play recently - but added none
yesterday. |
|
DeWayne White, DET |
blanked |
White finished as a double zero as he made this list for the second week in
a row. |
|
Greg White, TB |
1 assist |
There are 2 DEs named White in the NFL. It wasn't their day. |
|
Ronde' Barber, TB |
1 pass defensed |
Barber didn't clip anyone as he had almost no impact on the game. |
|
Jarrad Page, KC |
2 assists |
Hopefully he can turn the page on this lousy game. |
|
Justin Tuck, NYG |
1 tackle, 2 assists |
The Giants sack specialist didn't do much to help them win. |
|
Paul Spicer, JAC |
1 assist |
Not even a single solo tackle? |
|
Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, GB |
1 tackle |
Boo! A Zero hat trick for KGB. He's had 3 successive attractive matchups
- and earned his Zero for each of them. |
|
O.J. Atogwe, STL |
1 tackle |
A hero last week, Atogwe was a Zero this time. |
