Heroes and Goats of Week 2
Mike Harrison
Ahh, a week after me own heart, me hearties! Lotsa tackles and big plays all
across the board. In MNSHO, Russell Colvin's huge effort in the Pats demolition
of SD made him Hero of the week. Big plays were no guarantee of Hero status as
many players doubled in sacks or INTs but missed the cut. Johnathon Babineaux,
Brent Hawkins, Amobi Okoye, Clifton Ryan, Tommie Harris, Elvis Dumervil and
Shawne Merriman each got the QB twice but couldn't get a Hero rating. Anthony
Henry with 2 interceptions, and both Rosevelt Colvin and Corey Williams with 1
of each also failed to chart. Getting a defensive score were Thomas Howard and
Adalius Thomas with interception returns, Ray Edwards with a fumble return and
Gerard Warren with a safety.

Comments |
|
Mike Peterson, JAX |
7 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 pass defensed |
Another solid all-around game for this veteran Hero. |
|
Bob Sanders, IND |
7 tackles, 4 assists, 2.5 sacks |
Bob was the sackmeister of the week as he bagged the elusive Young two and a
half times. |
|
Bryant Young, SF |
6 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 fumble forced |
Like Derrick Johnson below, Bryant's tackles plus his sacks moved him to
Hero status. |
|
Barrett Ruud, TB |
9 tackles, 2 assists, 2 fumbles forced, 1 fumble recovered |
Barrett certainly seemed a rude host to the Saints as they were blown out
for the 2nd week in a row. He's off to a great start with 2 Hero ratings in
2 weeks. |
|
Darren Sharper, MIN |
8 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2 passes defensed, 1 fumble forced |
The Sharper Image sells quality - Darren produced it with a big effort for
the Vikes. |
|
Napolean Harris, KC |
10 tackles, 2 assists, 1 interception, 1 pass defensed |
Double digit solos plus an interception - Napolean earned his Hero rating
with a nice game. |
|
Derrick Johnson, KC |
6 tackles, 1 assist, 2 sacks, 2 passes defensed |
Lots of players had 2 sacks and missed placing - but Derrick's 6 tackles
pushed him over the top. |
|
Lance Briggs, CHI |
11 tackles, 1 assist, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed, 1 fumble forced, 1 fumble
recovered |
Lance was all over the field as he tied for the week's lead in tackles plus
produced 3 big plays. |
|
Thomas Howard, Oak |
9 tackles, 1 assist, 1 interception, 2 passes defensed, 1 fumble recovered,
1 touchdown |
Thomas' huge effort almost led to a big Raider upset but the combined dead
weight of Burgess and Sapp (see below) was too much to overcome. |
|
Lofa Tatupu, SEA |
11 tackles, 1 assist, 1 interception |
Tatupu was certainly not loafing although his mates seemed to be in their
loss to the Cards. |
|
Rosevelt Colvin, NE |
5 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 interception, 1 pass defensed, 2 fumbles forced |
Russell piled up a ton of points for you no matter what format your league
plays. He earned his HERO of the week notice. |

Goats |
Last Week's Stats |
Comments |
|
Troy Polamalu, PIT |
1 assist |
Ancient Troy had many heroes against the Greeks but this Troy was a big Goat
against the Bills. Lucky for him his mates picked him up. He's off to a
poor start - this makes 2 goats in 2 weeks for him. |
|
Bobby McCray, JAX |
blanked |
His elbow didn't prevent him from starting but he failed to make any plays. |
|
Reggie Nelson, JAX |
1 tackle |
This much-hyped rook is off to a slow start. |
|
Mario Williams, HOU |
1 tackle, 1 pass defensed |
Penthouse to outhouse? Top to bottom? Heaven to hell? Whatever you call
it Mario crashed to earth with a goatish game after last week's heroic
effort. |
|
Ahmad Brooks, CIN |
blanked |
The Browns had 63 plays, earned 554 yards of offense and scored 51 points.
Ahmad did nothing about any of those horrible numbers. Groin injury, they
say, so Caleb Miller took over. |
|
Andra Davis, CLE |
1 tackle, 2 assists |
Andra had plenty of chances but hardly made any plays. |
|
Will Smith, NO |
1 tackle, 2 assists, 1 pass defensed |
This makes 2 weeks in a row that Will has worn the Goat horns. Perhaps the
actor really is out there playing for the Saints. |
|
Adewale Ogunleye, CHI |
1 tackle, 1 pass defensed |
The Bears dominated without any help from him. |
|
Warren Sapp, Oak |
1 tackle, 2 assists |
Warren played like a sap against Denver. |
|
Derrick Burgess, OAK |
blanked |
When you combine Derrick's zero with his linemate's 1 tackle, it seems
impossible that Oakland was even in the game. |
